4 Reasons to Replace a Cracked Windshield

5 Tips For Improving Your Vehicle’s Fuel Economy.

1. Aging Bulbs

Like many aspects of a vehicle, headlight bulbs wear out over time. When this happens, they lose their brightness and start to dim. This is especially true for Halogen bulbs, which gradually dim before losing brightness completely. These types of bulbs don’t typically last for more than 1,000 hours. While LED is the more long-lasting option, continuing for thousands of hours, it will also eventually degrade after years of use.

2. Oxidized or Cloudy Lens Covers

If your vehicle’s headlights seem dimmer than usual, the bulb might not be to blame, but the lens covering it. Lens covers are made out of a special plastic material that’s durable. However, lenses can get cloudy or turn yellow over time. Harsh weather, UV exposure, and road debris are usually to blame. When this occurs, the light from the bulbs can’t pass through effectively, making it seem like your car's headlights are dim.

3. Electrical Issues

Issues with your vehicle’s electrical system can also cause lights to appear dim. Some possible causes include a weak battery, a failing alternator, and corroded wiring. If you notice the headlights dim when idling and brighten when accelerating, there could also be a problem with the charging system.
